Integrin PPWR

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, from supplier to market

Integrin checks your packaging against the PPWR before it is placed on the market.

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2025/40, applies directly in every Member State. Packaging placed on the EU market must stay within the substance limits, be recyclable, carry the required marking and be covered by a declaration of conformity. The duties fall on the manufacturer, importer or distributor of each item of packaging.

  2. Components and materials
  3. Role on each SKU
  4. Supplier declarations
  5. Checks
  6. Clear for Market

Roles

The regulation sets duties by role: manufacturer, importer or distributor. The role is decided for each item of packaging, so one business can hold different roles for different products.

Integrin records the role on each item of packaging for a SKU and runs the checks that apply to that role.

Substances and recyclability

Lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium together must stay within 100 mg/kg, food-contact packaging within the PFAS limits, and all packaging must be recyclable.

Each packaging type holds its components, materials and weights, the heavy-metal and PFAS results, and the recyclability evidence, measured against EN 13430 until the recyclability grades start.

Marking and declarations of conformity

The manufacturer marks the packaging with its type or batch number and its name and address, and draws up the declaration of conformity. The importer checks it and adds its own name and address.

Integrin checks the marking for the role, and that a current declaration of conformity covers the packaging type.

Clear for Market

Packaging may be made available only when it conforms, and a distributor first checks the marking and that the producer is registered for EPR.

Clear for Market is refused while any check fails, naming the article that failed. When every check passes, a second person approves the release, and every run of the checks is kept.

Supplier declarations

Suppliers must provide the information and documents that show the packaging conforms.

Declarations of conformity and supplier information are recorded with their files, signed off by a second person, reviewed on a set date and superseded when a new version arrives. A supplier can be asked to answer directly, and the answer is written into the record once it is accepted.

EPR registration

A producer must register for extended producer responsibility in each Member State where it first makes packaging available, and may not make packaging available there unregistered.

Integrin records the producer's EPR registration number on each packaging type, the business's own where it is the manufacturer or importer, and the checks refuse to clear packaging for market while it is missing.
